Google Android 5.0 Update

Facebook don’t give a rat’s behind about the browser – they want exactly what they just released, which is a Facebook launcher.The rest of the OS is untouched because Google allows anyone to go in and do what Facebook did.

Facebook did exactly what Google said is OK – they used public APIs to create their own view of the platform.

Something patently impossible on Apple’s iOS.

We personally don’t think Google cares one bit.

UI != UX. Facebook changed the UX but the UI still uses the same features every other android app or launcher does.

Furthermore, we think is a slap in the face to those who scream “Fork Android, fork Android!” for months on end.

Forking Android is a stupid decision unless you plan on basically making your own platform from the ground up.

Facebook has realized this and has done the wisest thing: they’ve changed the UX and UI without slowing down the advancements of Android.

Forking means slowing down advancement.

Those who fork are basically admitting that A) they don’t care about upgrading their product majorly beyond a few minor changes, as Android will continue to steamroll past their fork or B) they want to take on every single responsibility of developing an OS, so it better be a damned good OS, because once you throw off Google, you’re back at square one in terms of an ecosystem.

Facebook is the best of all solutions.

Do we think it’ll be a success? We doubt it.

But part of us hopes that it succeeds enough for others to see that this is the way forward, to make a unique experience without compromising on usability, functionality or ecosystem.
